Does anybody remember that song ‘Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit? The 90’s and early 2000’s was a different musical era…
“Keep Rollin, Rollin, Rollin, Rolling…”
There was a hip hop remix to that song that I used to love. I can’t know what the intention of the group was behind the song but I know how I interpreted it: Keep Pushing through whatever is in your way.
I was recently thinking about this in relation to the book I just recently published on Amazon. I’ve only got the paperback version available right now. One day I hope to publish an ebook version and audio book version but that takes money and resources I don’t have at the moment. One day I would like to have a better camera and lighting setup for my YouTube videos but that takes money and resources that I do not have at the moment. One day I would like to be able to train Martial Arts 3 days a week (I’m only going 1-2x at the moment). Right now I just don’t have the time and energy to do more than 1 to 2 x per week. One day I’d like to save 50% of my income but right now I don’t make enough money to do that. One day I’d like to be my own boss as a writer and content creator but right now I have to do it on the side while I work to keep the bills paid.
Should I not publish the book because I can’t publish in all ideal forms?
Should I not make videos because I don’t have the perfect set up?
Should I not train martial arts at all because I can’t train as often as I would like to?
Should I not save at all because I can’t save as much as I would like to?
Should I not work on content because I don’t make money with it at the moment?
No, of course not. I should move forward with what I have. I should also remember to take inventory in each of these situations:
In 2013 when I started writing it took me 3 weeks to produce 1,000 edited words. 10 years later I’ve written a book of over 30,000 words.
In 2015 when I started YouTube, I uploaded videos regularly for a year (at least once per week). I had videos that were on YouTube for months and got zero views. And up until last year I never had over a 100 subscribers on a channel. Now, I’m at 1,450 subs and I’ve got a TEDx talk with over 5,000 views.
When I first started training at my current MMA gym in 2021, it was rough. I was getting manhandled and beat up quite a bit. I still get manhandled from time to time but now I do my fair share of manhandling as well.
I think you get the point. So often we don’t start things because the circumstances aren’t ideal. Stop making excuses and wasting time waiting for perfection. It ain’t comin’! Get goin’ and Keep Rollin’!
